Some fit and finish issues

Like some of the other reviews, I found the assembly to be a little of a challenge. I drilled a 11/32" hole according to the instructions and tapped it with a 3/8" 16 tpi which helped mount it on the lathe. When screwing the tools on to the handles it was a very tight fit. For some of them I had to back it out, clean off the threads, knock out some cuttings and thread it on again a couple of times. That was a challenge but not a problem, really. The problem was some of the large ferules were not machined properly and the slots for the tool were not centered on the hole and were not perfectly in line with each other. This made screwing the tool all the way to the end of the rod difficult because the rod would hit the edge of the hole and the ferule did not sit perfectly flush with the end of he handle. Still, it is a nice set and I ended up with nice BBQ tools to give as gifts. I used Ambrosia maple finished with Mahoney's walnut oil.

Turned out very nice. But read the instructions carefully. The process is a bit different than any kit I've made before but straight forward. Dimensions were fine but you have to drill the hole, thread the hole, use the hole while machining then ream the hole to 10 mm ?. Then you assemble!! I used 30 min epoxy (local store didn't have 15 min epoxy) and it worked just fine. I used olive wood

The slot on the ends of some aren't centered, resulting in the ferrule sitting at an angle when the end is screwed into the wood. The weld on the threaded rod causes an enlarged area. This results in a cracked handle. The holes shoud be enlarged to accommodate this for the first inch or so of each handle. It is a pretty good looking and sturdy set, but these issues need to be taken into account.

Nice tools. Have made several as gifts. Replaced "leather" loops with zip-ties (more permanent).
Once I realized that the holes need to be tapped to 10mm, it was easy to screw and glue. Made these with glued-up Sapele, Oak, Birch veneer, and Brazilian Walnut.

I would have given this 5 stars, but the directions/measurements sent are different than the ones listed on this web site... Wasted some nice blanks....Must have gotten some old directions, but after I made my own measurements, the second blanks turned out perfectly... Just make sure your tenon/blank measurement directions are the same as they are here on the web site...

The bar-b-que tool kit has an incorrect dimension. For the handles it shows you need to turn a 0.86" OD for the bottom end (opposite the tool end). The end cap provided has a 0.96" ID. After turning the first handle I realized this error ruined a beautiful 7 inch piece of Bolivian Rosewood, and now I don't have a matching set of handles. You should correct your instructions or include the correct end caps.

The item was easy and fun to do, the spatula has a steak knife edge which is a plus. I used some walnut from a tree that fell at the family farm and it turned out amazing. I was making this for something different to put out at the wood carving show table to sell but I decided to keep this for myself.
