Inspired by our best selling bolt action pen mechanism, this Gearshift Chrome pen is an ideal gift for any car enthusiast. The mechanism design is based off a five-speed H pattern shifter and can be shifted just like the real thing! Authenticity abounds; The cap features a car tire with a true to life tread and hubcap. The tip features the same tire tread as the cap. The shifter handle includes an etched five-speed pattern. And the industrialized crowbar clip attached to the body with two small screws rounds out the design. Easy to make with a single tube. Refill fully advances at the front of the shifter and fully retracts at the back of the shifter. Uses a popular Parker style refill.

Lately i have used your acrylic pen blanks, which are challenging at first but in the end they are a beautiful color and finish to a high smooth gloss. Sanding to 12k grit the using you finish.

Very unique and good looking pen well made and easy to assemble the only draw back is getting the pen down to write it wants to go into other gears and it's a little tricky to bring it up. They should somehow block the other gears to make it easier to drop down the pen refill. Should go for only 4 stars but I love the look

Nice design but... durability problems?

It went together pretty easily, but while making it I dropped the gearshift end. The gearshift lever snapped off. Partly my fault for being ham-handed, but I don't think a simple drop of a couple of feet should break it. I ended up drilling out the broken stem, then turned down a nail to fit and superglued it in. I also filed the gearshift pattern down and glued it to the nail head. I ended up not giving it as a gift. We'll see if my repair lasts.

Love these pens - the gear shift is a fantastic touch to make a unique and personal handmade pen. Turns really easy and since it uses such a short blank, it's great for using left overs pieces from pen blanks.

This is a great kit for a beginning turner, that makes you look like a pro. I love all the detailed components. Your eye just discovers new things from tip to end. The gear shift does move like a Bolt Action pen, and adds the middle gear for a more precise look to an H-pattern gear shift. The material that I used was the Kirinite Blue Maze, which complimented the chrome body to perfection. If you have a gear head in your family, this is the kit for them.
